Soil temp Timing Seed scores

Why it helps a lawn renovation

Seeding fails from both drought and saturation. A meter tells you whether the seedbed needs water or another hour before the next cycle.

How to use it

Probe a few inches into the soil in several spots — edges dry faster than the middle. Cheap analog meters are fine for relative wet/dry; replace when the probe corrodes. Not a substitute for watching puddles and runoff.
