The 40 lb bag. Coverage is 4,000 sq ft at 10 lb per 1,000, 6,600 at 6 lb.
10 lb per 1,000 sq ft (label range 6–12). The 10 lb rate is the lightest column on Andersons’ own spreader chart — a 40 lb bag covers 4,000 sq ft there. Maintenance on the label is 6–12 lb per 1,000; the 6 lb end is how the bag’s 6,600 sq ft figure is figured. Corrective work on established turf is 25–40 lb, and heavy clay can want 80–130 split between spring and fall. New seedbeds are 40–100 lb worked into the top 3 inches. Gypsum helps sodic, salt-affected clay; it is not a substitute for pulling cores. Put it down after aeration.
